First stick from a MAR-23 SLB.
First half contained mostly notes of wood and nuts, light in strength.
The second half it transitioned into a salty, buttery flavour reminiscing of popcorn. Some almond on the aftertaste. The stength picked up to medium+.
Overall an even, but rather fast burn, about 45 minutes of smoking time.

A fairly decent stick, but not as good as no. 2 IMO.

Juan Lopez Seleccion No 1
25x Cab Feb 23

Cold draw: dry fruits & white pepper
Compact smoke, peppery & tobacco notes on the first puffs, monolithic & disappointing over all on the first third, which I am wrestling though not to leave in the ashtray.
Hopping for sunnier days in the second third that are shy to come, with hints of nuts coming in.
Very earthy overall, its a missed experienced. I hope for a green or bum stick.
Will not touch this cab until at least next summer.
Disappointing.
So harsh in comparison to the Juan Lopez n°2 from june 20 I had 2 weeks ago.

6/10

Sharing your experience. The No 2 was fantastic, while no 1 didn’t even come close. Will also let my cabinet rest some years and hopefully it will transition into something better.

Beautiful smoke. Started off with a bit of pepper then transitioned to coffee, pastries, roast nuts, and honey. Strength then begins to pick up around the final third. Thoroughly enjoyed with a nice solid ash that held on till the bitter end. Testament to the quality and construction of this fine cigar!

605. Juan Lopez Seleccion No. 1

2021-05-11/ ANDREDIAS95

Store bought at Sweets n Cigars.

Location: This review was made indoors in cigar lounge.

Information:
Wrapper: Cuba
Binder: Cuba
Filler: Cuba
Origin: Cuba

Factory: Cuba
Box: Sold in 25 count boxes.
Release: 1990s
Availability: Regular Production

Size: 5.6×46, Coronas Gordas (Grand Corona)

Wrapper: Milk chocolate, oily and silky smooth with tiny veins.

Construction: Medium firm and even when lightly squeezed.

Cold draw: Light wood notes and cane sugar.

1st third: Starts with a sandalwood, slight dried fruits, white pepper and cane sugar.

2nd third: No changes.

Burn: Burns fairly sharp with a firm and stable grayish ash.

Smoke: Medium voluminous smoke with a medium heat feel on the tongue with a medium light draw.

3rd third: Gets a hint of medium roasted coffee and the white pepper steps forward a bit from the rest of the other flavours.

Duration: 17:45-18:50, 1h 5min.

Conclusion: A medium bodied cigar with a medium strength profile. Doesn’t really hold up to it’s sister cigar No. 2 with a bit more sweetness.

Result: In my book this is an 89 point cigar.
