My Biography

I am a man with endless hobbies, amongst them, and probably one of the most important to me, is the casual enjoyer of cigars.

What was the first cigar you ever smoked?

As much as I hate to say it, the first "cigar" I ever smoked was a Swisher Sweet from the local gas station. A friend of mine and I would buy them and drive around town, just discussing life. We thought we were living high on the hog when we were able to get one with a wood tip. Then, we graduated to the White Owl's with grape flavor. Oh boy, what a time! But let me tell you, when we had a Cuban Round, made with "real Cuban seed tobacco," you would have thought we hit the lottery. Little did we know, they were complete garbage.

My first REAL cigar was a Macanudo Vintage 1997. I purchased it strictly because of the metal ring for the band, and it is still one of my favorite every-day smokes.

As far as Cubans go, the Partagas D4 was the first one, and again, is still one of my favorites today.

What is the worst cigar you’ve ever smoked?

A Drew Estate Factory Smokes "Sweet." About 2 puffs in I had to toss it.

What is your greatest cigar-related memory?

So many to choose from! I would have to say being able to smoke during our honeymoon on our swim out balcony in the Dominical Republic. Such beautiful scenery, good cigars, and, of course, we were on our honeymoon!

What is your favourite cigar brand?

That's a tough one. One of the most consistent would have to be Partagas. Although the Fuente Fuente Opus X never disappoints.

What is your favourite cigar accessory?

The accoutrement is one of my favorite parts of smoking cigars. I would have to say my favorite is the El Casco cutter (gold version) or my Meerapfel limited edition ashtray.

What is your favourite cigar shop?

Either the Tinder Box at Easton, Columbus, or the Cigar Vault in Wooster. Both are relatively close to me.

When traveling, my wife and I enjoy going to Savannah and Tybee Island. The Ye Olde Tobacco Shop on Bay Street is a must visit for me.

What is your favourite lounge?

Nicky Blaine's in Indianapolis, IN.

What is your favourite method of ignition?

I like to use a soft flame, either from a cigar lighter or match. However, being forced to smoke outside a lot, a torch flame will do in a pinch when inclement weather conditions prohibit soft flames.

What is your favourite cut?

Straight cut all the way!

I have trouble with draw on a V cut and a punch, and a double V cut is just unnecessary. With my El Casco cutter, a simple straight cut is done right every time, the draw is perfect, and no subsequent issues arise.
